9. Paul Gascoigne - Geordie Boys
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU0-fmKI0lU There is actually something quite admirable about the pride Gascoinge shows on record towards his home city. However, as vulnerable and harmless (in most parts) as Gazza has proven to be over the last couple of decades, it would be impossible to leave Geordie Boys off the list. Paul Gascoigne was born with an undeniable gift and it wasnt his rapping ability, it was in fact his talent of being able to turn his leg into a guitar as he demonstrated in the video of his other song Fog on the Tyne. To the England midfielders credit, he does actually look like he is having a good laugh performing these songs and appears to not see himself as the next Rod Stewart or David Bowie; which unfortunately is not the case for a number of entrants on the list. It is Gazzas cheeky character that makes these records somewhat tolerable and a key reason Geordie Boys isn't higher up on the list - as lets face it, outside of Gascoignes endearing personality this song does not have a lot going for it. Geordie Boys is a terrible attempt at early 90s dance music, with a second-rate Pet Shop Boys chorus being broken up by Gazza rapping about how great Newcastle is. As stated, we can give the footballer points for hometown pride, but sadly not for musical talent.
