10 Bad Opening Songs On Great Rock Music Albums

9. Dance Tonight - Memory Almost Full (Paul McCartney)

Former Beatle and everyone's favourite mad Scouse grandpa, Paul McCartney was having a real time of it in the mid-2000s.

In 2005, he released the critically-acclaimed introspective piece Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Two years later, he turned out one of his most complete records in a long time.

Memory Almost Full captured some of the magic that had made McCartney solo outings must-listen material in the 1980s. Well-written, expressive, free-flowing pop rock was the order of the day and, above everything else, it was a lot of fun.

Well, except for Dance Tonight.

Kicking things off on Memory Almost Full is a sub-three minute ditty that showcases some of Macca's worst traits. Played mostly on the mandarin, Dance Tonight is McCartney singing about dancing in an incessantly upbeat manner. It's the star at his schmaltzy, sappy trough, and it gets real old, real fast.

Whilst it's not offensive in any sense of the word, it's just a really bad choice to start the record with. Especially when Ever Present Past, an upbeat banger, is the very next song!

If only Paul had spent less time dancing and more time thinking about his album ordering.
