10 Band Members That Are Way More Important Than You Think

5. Bonehead - Oasis

Being the best guitar player doesn’t really mean playing the fastest. As much as Eddie Van Halen might get heaps of praise for being the greatest guitar player of all time, there’s no shame in playing chords and filling out the sound of the band. And while The Gallagher Brothers are the unequivocal rock stars of Oasis, the band wouldn’t have their massive sound without Bonehead.

During the first incarnation of the Manchester legends, Bonehead was responsible for the wall of sound that came from their classic material, which Owen Morris made sound like the biggest guitar in the world. Though Noel Gallagher wrote most of the tunes during their glory years, Bonehead’s guitar gave a lot more color to every song they played, like turning up the volume to sound massive on the chorus of Champagne Supernova or creating a wall of sound to make Columbia sound like it’s beaming with life.

While Bonehead might have been key to the band’s sound, his impact wouldn’t be felt until the end of the ‘90s, when the rest of Oasis’ catalog started to sound a little bit flat because of the lack of crunch that came out of Bonehead’s tone. The Gallaghers may have been high on themselves throughout most of the ‘90s, but you never notice one of the greatest players in the band until they aren’t there anymore.
