10 Bands And Artists Who Pass The Five Album Test

6. Spoon

The most consistent band in indie rock, you know you’ll never get anything less than a solid record when it comes to Spoon. If that sounds unglamorous, well, they’re not really a glamorous affair. Rather, they’re a bunch of hardworking Texans putting out some of the best, tightest rock music in recent years.

Spoon’s mid-to-late ‘90s output was solid, but it’s in 2001 that their run of greatness really started. Girls Can Tell swapped the throwback rock for something with a lot more groove, the soulful "Anything You Want" a highlight.

The band has gone from strength to strength since, with 2002’s Kill The Moonlight arguably their most streamlined collection of tunes. Later albums Gimme Fiction and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga even boasted a couple of hits, the latter’s trailer-friendly “The Underdog” most notably.

If Spoon are no longer quite in their golden period, it’s fair to say they never let the fans down, with this year’s Lucifer On The Sofa another entry into one of the most steadily brilliant ouvres in modern music.
