10 Bands That Changed Rock And Roll
5. David Bowie
Once you've found your trademark sound, you tend to normally stay in that sort of lane. Hell, if you end up reaching outside of your comfort zone, there's a good chance that you're going to have to deal with some disgruntled fans and even lose some devotees in the process. David Bowie...he didn't give one sh*t about any of that, and came out on the other side as one of the greatest legends of rock.
Across his entire discography, Bowie was never content on just making the same album twice, looking to top himself with something fresh every time he went into the studio. While many people know the classic Bowie from his glam rock period, nothing was off the table as he switched up his sound in the coming years, covering everything from blue eyed soul to krautrock to industrial and drum and bass music by the time he reached the '90s.
On the stage as well, Bowie stepped up the spectacle in rock and roll alongside acts like KISS, playing with traditional gender roles and being outspoken about the freedoms that all rock and rollers should have. When most normally get into this industry for the money, Bowie always look at his career as an example for how younger rockers down the line could behave. After the reign of the Starman, the playing field was now wide open.
