10 Bands That Ditched What Made Them Famous
9. Fleetwood Mac
When the blues boom erupted in Britain in the late 60's, there was always a certain amount of respect paid to Fleetwood Mac. With rock luminaries like Peter Green and Bob Welch providing guitar work for the band, the group were one of the most interesting acts of the blues-rock genre, with admirers from The Beatles to impressionable players like a young Kirk Hammett.
As the band were working their way through the 70's, the blues was brought to a halt when they found themselves without Peter Green. Desperate for a new guitarist, the band enlisted Lindsey Buckingham, who brought along his girlfriend Stevie Nicks to provide vocals. Once the five-member outfit was secure, the band's sound shifted drastically.
Rather than having the bluesy blasts of energy from the old days, the band's new material seemed to be more in line with folk rock and even pop music. While members like John McVie had a few reservations about the new sound, the band went on to great success with albums like their eponymous record and Rumours. The music may be a far cry from the blues, but there's certainly no complaining to be had with songs that are this infectious.
