10 Bands That Ended Their Careers On A High Note

4. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse

For a brief moment in the '00s, the pop charts decided to get weirdly retro for a little bit. Aside from some of the club bangers that were populating the charts, there was also the likes of Michael Buble notching up hits every now and again and oldies connoisseur Mark Ronson coming into his own as a songwriter. All we needed was that one voice to send it over the top, and Amy came in like a rockstar ripped straight out of the 1940's.

Before you even saw her on stage, Back to Black had everything that made Amy Winehouse powerful on one disc, sporting a booming alto register and not really giving a sh*t what anyone thought of her from one track to the next. Though songs like Rehab may have been the knockout tracks from the era, this entire project gives you a glimpse into both sides of Winehouse's mind, going from casually breaking your heart on songs like Me and Mr. Jones to getting a lot more introspective on You Know I'm No Good or Love is A Losing Game.

Then again, she probably played these songs a little too close to the chest, living up to that rock star lifestyle once she became famous and eventually dying from alcohol poisoning. We may have some posthumous releases that came out later down the line, but the real legacy of Amy can be seen in every single female singer that has come up in her wake, from the retro sounds of Adele to even Billie Eilish.
