10 Bands That Fell Out Over One Song
3. Girls of Summer - Aerosmith
The end of the ‘90s started the beginning of the end for Aerosmith, the rock band. After getting their first mainstream #1 hit with I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing, Steven Tyler thought the band’s new calling should be about making pop songs, with Just Push Play having a far more polished sheen than the Bad Boys From Boston were used to. While the rest of the band were able to deal with a couple of poppy songs here and there, no one was ready for what the Girls of Summer had in store.
Though this song has the Aerosmith name on it, this may as well be a Steven Tyler solo song, written about the summertime and having a sound that screams the early ‘00s. Even if the band had some problems with Just Push Play, the rest of them hardly even played on this song and didn’t even bother to appear in the video for the tune either.
It’s not like they weren’t right to be pissed, since this was going out with their band name and sounding like it should be some forgotten rock leaning cut on a Backstreet Boys record. The core mentality behind Aerosmith at this point is just sticking together, but this was a pretty clear picture of how divided the band were at the time.
