10 Bands That Never Made A Bad Album
6. The White Stripes
There's always been a bit of a confusion surrounding the concept of less is more. Though rock and roll had started off with the basics, some of the best bands in the world like Queen or Pink Floyd have taken the genre to new heights by bringing in extra elements that wouldn't have necessarily fit into the rock format. Anything can work if you have the right attitude though, and the White Stripes were looking to tear down the foundations of what rock could be.
While you could technically call Jack and Meg White's first steps into the music world basic, every album that they've put out has always given us a different layer of their sound to dissect, all while keeping the setup of just two people in the band. For all of the rough around the edges sounds of their debut record, hearing them bring down the rafters on songs like Fell In Love With a Girl are the product of jamming in a garage until you've finally found the sounds that work best for you.
They would eventually start to bring in some new layers like keyboard and guitar effects, but the garage mentality was still there every time, like the wild tangents going on at the tail end of Icky Thump or My Doorbell sounding like it's being played on some beat up old piano. Yes, the sounds might be a bit simple when you break it down, but there's a fine line between being simple and finding a riff that moves something in your gut when you hear it.
