10 Bands That Stole Another Band's Sound
9. Mr. Bungle To Red Hot Chili Peppers
Whenever you take too much influence from a band’s sound, the artist in question might take in a different way. While many will take it in stride, others may be a little skeptical as to why a new band would try to take ownership over their style.
Other times though, those artistic similarities can lead to outright hatred between two acts.
Such is the case when Mr. Bungle came to fruition in the ‘90s. Formed by Faith No More frontman Mike Patton, this act combined rock aggression and funky rhythms with a punky attitude, alongside a vocal delivery that fit comfortably between singing and rapping. It was a unique shakeup for alternative rock, but the fact the Red Hot Chili Peppers were already huge at the time led to a bit of a dustup.
Wanting to stir the pot a little bit, Patton took to the stage one night with Mr. Bungle, performing some of the Chili Peppers’ tunes with the words changed, as well as pretending to shoot heroin in reference to the band’s drug problems.
Absolutely disgusted by his behaviour, Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis asked that Mr. Bungle be removed from a major festival that the Chilis were supposed to appear on. Sometimes people are able to make amends with their copycats, but this feud ended up getting ugly really fast.
