10 Bands To Listen To If You Love Led Zeppelin

7. Hanggai

Over the past fifteen years, this Inner Mongolian troupe have grown to be one of the most malleable and enticing metal bands in China.

They cite numerous artists as motivators (from art rockers Pink Floyd and Radiohead to electronic/post-rock darling Secret Machines), so they have quite an eclectic aesthetic. That said, they frequently tap into their love of Led Zeppelin as well.

Tracks such as The Rising Sun, Four Seasons, The Vast Grassland, Homeland, and Baifang do a fine job of melding Led Zeppelin’s penchant for pastoral sounds and subject matter with more transparently Asian timbres and techniques.

Furthermore, their repeated uses of the morin khuur and the topshur channel Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones’ interest in exploratory textures. In contrast, founding frontman Ilchi’s fondness for throat singing is a far cry from Robert Planet’s high-pitched croons, yet even that aspect of Hanggai’s chemistry should intrigue Led Zeppelin devotees.
