10 Best Acoustic Hard Rock Songs
7. Seasons - Chris Cornell
Soundgarden were always an eclectic band whose musical direction knew no limits. However, the band had certainly settled into a groove by the time the 90's hit their stride, with their mix of psychedelic hard rock and heavy metal becoming the calling card for bands who fell into the category of grunge music.
On the other hand, frontman Chris Cornell had one of the greatest acoustic cuts of the decade hidden in the grunge canon. Buried on the soundtrack to the Cameron Crowe film Singles, "Seasons" is a reflection on the effect the alternative movement in Seattle was having on its heavyhitters. As the rapid fire acoustic picking drives the tune, Cornell's vocal is incredibly strong while showing tasteful restraint. The song is somehow both gorgeous and mournful in its delivery, as if Cornell is saying that he had to sacrifice a bit of his own being to live the mainstream lifestyle he was forced into.
While Soundgarden's repertoire was packed to the brim with some of the best hard rock tunes of the 90's, Cornell would still play this song on multiple solo tours and even reunions with supergroup Temple of the Dog. Now that Chris is no longer with us, let this song be a message to not to leave his memory behind as seasons pass.
