10 Best American Classic Rock Bands Of All Time
9. Creedence Clearwater Revival
After the British Invasion hit America, the entire rock scene seemed to spread out with each passing year. Whether it was blues or folk or psychedelia, these bands were taking everything that their European brethren had started and putting their own inflection of Americana into it.
Instead of staying in one of those offshoot genres, Creedence Clearwater Revival were one of the first bands that did all of these astonishingly well. While you could hear traces of blues and folk, CCR never felt content staying in one lane. The entire band's aesthetic was very rootsy, almost as if John Fogerty had written these classics while messing around in his back yard.
Like a lot of their contemporaries, the band also weren't afraid to get pointed, with songs that furiously attacked the American government on songs like "Fortunate Son." Though the band can be listened to on many levels, it never felt as if Fogerty was speaking down to you. The lyrics may have had deeper meanings than you might think, but the songs are presented in a way where anyone can relate to it. As the 60's branched out into more experimental territory, CCR made a legendary career by being the Everyband for the Everyman.
