10 Best British Classic Rock Bands Of All Time
3. Queen
Just the name of this band alone conjures up an air of sophistication. Of all the great British bands of the classic rock era, Queen were one of the most talented ensembles of musicians to ever be in a single group. Rather than come together like solo artists, the band melded their ideas together into true masterpieces of rock.
What jumps out at you first in any Queen production is the vocals, which are layered many times over to create a glorious wall of voices. Following suit was Brian May's guitar, which cut through the mix with various harmonied parts and very calculated forms of shredding. Though the band had a star singer in Freddie Mercury, the raspy tone from Roger Taylor also gave the band an equally talented vocal presence.
Even if the band was treated like a democracy amongst its members, Queen was always led under the great vision of Freddie Mercury. Along with being a virtuosic composer of songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody," Mercury also was pivotal in pioneering the rock frontman role, as he bore his soul on the stage, focused on giving his all to impress each audience he played for. Their moniker may have already secured it, but Queen have more than earned the right to be considered rock royalty.
