10 Best Classic Rock Intros Of The 1980s

5. Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen

The anthemic intro sets the scene for one of the misunderstood anti-war/anti-government songs of all time. The snare drum cracks like an explosion - leading to it being widely sampled by other acts. Springsteen's impassioned vocal over the sparse backing sets us up for the big moment when the whole band jumps in.

It's easy to see why the song was initially so misunderstood. The iconic album cover seemed to scream red-neck patriotism, although anyone with any familiarity with Springsteen's previous albums would know instantly that there was more to it than meets the eye.

The 'Born In The USA' album spawned so many hits it almost plays out like a 'best of' album. For many it is Springsteen's finest hour, and is his most commercially successful album. Springsteen continues to fill stadiums and release chart topping albums, never afraid to go against expectations.

Simply put: If you don't like Bruce Springsteen, you don't like rock 'n' roll.
