8. Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots - The Flaming Lips
If you're ever looking for a good neo-psychedilia space rock indietronica pop album, this is definitely the best. The Flaming Lips' 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots has been debated as to what extent it's a concept album, with only some of the songs being linked together. But it's enough of a theme and good enough an album to qualify it for this list, especially as there's a musical planned based on the album. It's difficult to explain exactly what the story is because - as I mentioned earlier - it's only half an overall story. Best guess, it's about a love triangle centered around a girl named Yoshimi, but before choosing she must defeat an army of... well, pink robots. As one song tells us, one of the boyfriends is afraid the robots will eat him, and he's making an impassioned plea to her to rescue him (she's trained in karate and eats vitamins, the song tells us). Track Listing: 1. Fight Test 2. One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21 3. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, part 1 4. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, part 2 5. In the Morning of the Magicians 6.
