1. Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg The song that changed music history. In 1991, no one expected a band from Aberdeen, Washington to conquer the charts like they did. In 2011, Nevermind had sold 30 million copies, being certified diamond in the U.S (for shipping 10 million copies). "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was the song that made it all happen. One of the most recognisable intros in msuic, it is one of Grohl's simpler drum parts. But, no drum intro has made a bigger impact. Coming in out of nowhere, Grohl's attack on the kit makes a room stop. When producer Butch Vig heard the song for the first time, he said "It blew me away." Why is it No.1? Imagine a group of teenagers sat in a room at a party. When a rock song comes on, most people go straight for the air guitar. The drum intro to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" will have everyone pounding away at an invisible kit all the same. The anticipation for the drums to kick is still unlike any other song; it's loud, aggressive, angry and so powerful it captured an entire generation and shook it to the core. It was also the song that took everyone by surprise as Dave pounded away like something possessed. "Who's that drummer?" Well, his name is Dave Grohl.
