10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 1980s

4. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

Another group that was ahead of the curve in the 80s were The Stone Roses, whose self-titled debut album was released in May of 1989.

That still counts as an 80s album, goddammit!

These lads from Manchester put out an absolutely stonking debut release, chockfull of songs that would go on to become classics of the British indie rock cannon.

I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs The Drums, Waterfall, I Am The Resurrection. Say these names to anyone who was into Britpop in the 90s and they'll explode in a shower of Stella Artois and cheap cigarettes.

Despite being lumped in with the likes of Oasis, Blur, and Pulp, The Stone Roses put out their first record in an entirely different decade. However, if you actually listen to it, then you'll find songs that wouldn't have seemed out of place in 1994, 2006, 2013...

Basically, this is a timeless record that more than deserves the love it gets. It may essentially be 80s in name only, but this was a fantastic indicator of where the genre was going over the next ten years.

It's just a shame that the Roses only made one other proper album after this.
