7. Queen Latifah
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLB5bUNAesc Dana Elaine Owens aka Queen Latifah is a one woman entertainment powerhouse. She sings, writes songs, is a comedienne and a model, is a highly regarded actress and when she was younger, she was Hip Hop's leading lady. A demo of her song Princess of the Posse was passed to Yo! MTV Raps host Fab 5 Freddy. When Tommy Boy Music heard the track, they signed Latifah and her first song Wrath of My Madness was released in 1988. Her first album All Hail the Queen was released in 1989. She has released further rap albums but now mainly concentrates upon singing. Queen Latifah was a force for good in Hip Hop. Along with Monie Love, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul she was in a collective known as Native Tongues who rejected the increasing violence in Hip Hop and the gangsterism of the West Coast. She is another serious female rapper who had important issues to rap about.
