10 Best Hard Rock Album Covers Of All Time

1. Nevermind - Nirvana

After signing with DGC records, Nirvana ventured into the studio and created one of the greatest records of the 90's with Nevermind. The album would not only sell millions of copies, but also signal-handedly shift rock's focus from hair metal to alternative rock. The title may have seemed apathetic, but the actual cover captured everything unique about the alternative movement.

Kurt Cobain first hit upon the idea of a baby swimming after reading a news story about children being born underwater, but the devil is in the details. The one element of the shot that ties it all together is the fishing hook with the dollar bill attached to it, which the baby seems to be chasing.

Given Cobain's cynical take on consumerism, the idea of money being a driving factor for humans from the moment they are born spoke to the band's angsty teenage audience. Though the music inside is also fantastic, Nevermind's artwork shows just how quickly corporate entities can entice the innocent with greedy business tactics. Combining irony and apathy into one image, this album showed the entire music world that things were about to change. More apathy was to follow, but nothing hit the nail on the head quite like this.
