10 Best Hard Rock Albums Of The 90s
9. Superunknown - Soundgarden
Out of all the bands to come out of Seattle, Soundgarden was possibly the most accessible band for fans of hard rock. Not only were the riffs insanely heavy, but the vocals from Chris Cornell took the spectral howl of Robert Plant and turned it up a few notches.
While the band had made pretty big waves on the local scene, Superunknown was the album where everything fell into place. Each track on here shows a different facet of the band's sound from the hard groove of "Spoonman" to the all-out rock of "My Wave" to the moody darkness behind "Fell on Black Days." The band's hit on the record, "Black Hole Sun," manages to take all of the best elements of this record and meld them into a concentrated mix of psychedelic, metal, pop, and rock.
Amid the 90's rock landscape, this album was an example of a project that had a little something for everyone. Whether you were a punk, metalhead, or just a casual rock fan, there was sure to be a song by Soundgarden that would be your jam. Even when under the grunge umbrella, Soundgarden came through with a record with a great eclecticism that hasn't been matched by any other 90's band.
