10 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal EPs Of 2017

6. The Alex Jones Prison Planet – Crush The Parasites

The notorious InfoWars conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is a meme-generating machine. An online icon that represents America’s right-wing media at its most nonsensical and unintentionally self-parodic, Jones is a man that has found internet infamy thanks to his regularly ridiculous and rowdy outbursts of sheer, unadulterated lunacy. Such golden quotes from this bastion of pure wisdom have included “I’m a human and I’m coming!”, “What do I do, Lord? Destroy the child! Corrupt them all!” and “Get outta my way, I’m gonna drink Diet Coke!”

So it was only a matter of time before this lunatic got a metal band dedicated to him.

Enter The Alex Jones Prison Planet: a self-professed “infocore” outfit that shouldn’t work as well as it does. Using the man’s mad rantings as lead vocals, The Alex Jones Prison Planet constructs immaculate death metal riffage centred around political ravings and other general insanity. The group released two EP’s this year (Cursed to Hell and Crush the Parasites, with a third – Super Heavy Galactic Stuff – set to drop in the coming weeks), but it is the latest of the duo that makes this list, purely because anything that turns Alex Jones’s iconic “Turn the freaking frogs gay” speech into a heavy metal breakdown just has to be hailed as a piece of high art.

Truly, The Alex Jones Prison Planet just has to be heard to be believed.

I write for Metal Hammer, Prog and WhatCulture. I don’t have Facebook or Twitter, so you’ll just have to call me a stupid cuck to my face.
