10 Best Hard Rock Documentaries You've Never Seen
3. Heavy Metal Parking Lot
Heavy Metal Parking Lot is the shortest documentary on this list, but it's no less enjoyable. Coming in at around 17 minutes in length, it was an incredibly simple concept for a documentary.
In 1986, filmmakers Jeff Krulik and John Heyn set up their camera in the parking lot of the Capitol Centre Arena in Maryland, where Judas Priest were set to play.
The filmmakers proceeded to interview the excited young metal heads as they began to arrive for the pre-concert tailgate. As time went on, the eager young fans became more intoxicated, with one particularly friendly Priest fan revealing he's on acid...
There was plenty of teenage bravado on display, diehard demonstrations of metal devotion, and a number of memorable characters, with one guy forever being branded 'The Zebraman' by fans of the film.
The film has become something of a cult classic, and even Kurt Cobain was said to own a VHS of it, which the Nirvana members would constantly quote.
In 2006, the filmmakers made a 'where are they now?' show, following up with some of the Judas Priest fans who appeared in the original 1986 classic.
