10 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Songs Of 2018

2. Code Orange (feat. Corey Taylor) – “The Hunt”

In early 2017, Code Orange dropped the nuclear bomb that was their third album, Forever. Its frantic and unadulterated fusion of punk, metal and industrial music saw the underground troupe singlehandedly transform the Western metalcore scene for months and, potentially, years to come. A style that was dominated by the pop-inspired catchiness of Bullet for My Valentine and Bring Me the Horizon was obliterated and then rebuilt from the ground up, now favouring dissonant heaviness and uncompromised rage.

After transforming an entire genre for the better in 2017, Code Orange kept their momentum going in 2018, following up with the Hurt Will Go On EP and touring all over the planet. “The Hunt” is one of two new songs they unveiled this year and it picks up exactly where the group left off with Forever: it’s three minutes of roaring, screeching and percussive grooves, bolstered by a verse from Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor.

Corey’s presence gives the song a resonating significance. He transforms what would by itself be an excellent industrial metalcore track into a ceremonial passing of the torch – a nod from one game-changing band to another that they are the undeniable future of extreme music.
