10 Best Hard Rock Music Videos Of The 80s

3. I Love Rock 'N Roll - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts (1981)

Watch any of Joan Jett's music videos of this era and it's clear she was one cool motherf**ker. In a genre dominated by dudes, Joan Jett was a breeze of effortlessly cool femininity. She could sport a leather jacket better than any frontman in the game, and her lip snarl could rival that of Billy Idol's.

There was nothing flashy in this video, Jett just wanders into a bar and dictates the mood by serenading the crowd with her rendition of I Love Rock 'N Roll. Pretty soon into the video, you're left wishing Jett would strut into your local bar and turn the place upside down with her crowd commanding presence. This video was all about attitude and it's clear Jett had enough to go around. For an era of music videos that would become so inundated with tired tropes, Jett kept things simple and it paid off.

Note the red leather suit she's wearing, and bear in mind this video came out a year before Thriller. Michael Jackson has a lot to answer for, for ripping off Joan Jett's look.
