10 Best Hard Rock Power Ballads You've Probably Never Heard

8. Damn Yankees - Where You Goin' Now

Given that Damn Yankees was a supergroup consisting of Styx’s Tommy Shaw, Night Ranger’s Jack Blades, guitar legend Ted Nugent, and Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Michael Cartellone, it shouldn’t be a surprise that each of their songs is loaded with talent. The group are best remembered for their euphoric love song High Enough (which was part of their debut album) – another of their power ballads, The Silence Is Broken, even featured in the movie Nowhere To Run – however, one track that’s since slipped out of memory for general audiences is Where You Goin’ Now.

Part of Don’t Tread, the group's second album, this ballad is built around succulent harmonies plucked out on guitar underneath an even tighter vocal arrangement from the bandmates. And when the drum line leads into the chorus, it’s time for listeners to turn up the volume and belt out the lyrics without any regard for who might be listening.

From the sublime ways that the guitar parts blend into each other to the simple yet catchy refrain, this track is uncomplicated, feel-good rock music at its finest. It’s a shame that this song doesn’t get half the recognition it deserves.
