10 Best Hard Rock Power Ballads You've Probably Never Heard

3. Lordi - Like A Bee To The Honey

Best known for their spectacular make-up effects and horror-inspired aesthetic, Finnish hard rock band Lordi likewise made waves when they won Eurovision with their track Hard Rock Hallelujah back in 2006.

And in 2020, Mr Lordi (real name Tomi Petteri Putaansuu) released his tenth studio album, Killection. Conceptualised as a fictitious compilation album, this record’s tracks have a distinctive pulpy tone reminiscent of the sounds of the 70s and 80s. Combined with the band’s tongue-in-cheek humour, tracks like I Dug A Hole In The Yard For You and the disco flavoured Zombimbo make Killection a joyously enjoyable time.

Another standout track is power ballad Like A Bee To The Honey. Featuring Hanoi Rock’s Michael Monroe on a growling saxophone and tantalising synths over the heavy rock riff, this song is the perfect marriage between old-school power ballads and Lordi’s own style. The track will have listeners hooked from the infectious drum beat that acts as the intro all the way through to the final refrain – at which point listeners will be singing along.

Moreover, this track is an authentic piece of 80s rock. Originally penned by KISS vocalist Paul Stanley and songwriter Jean Beauvoir, the song was lying unused for decades.
