10 Best Hip-Hop Albums From The First Half Of 2019
4. Pivot Gang - You Can't Sit With Us
After their most recognizable member Saba dropped one of the best solo albums of 2018 with CARE FOR ME, there was a sense that Chicago group Pivot Gang's newest release would seem underwhelming in comparison, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Over the 13 tracks, each member pushes the others to sound the best they possibly can.
There's an authentic, homegrown vibe to each of the songs, as each member trades 16's back and forth, with guest features from artists such as Mick Jenkins and Smino. It isn't simply good rapping that makes this album great either.
Pivot Gang knows how to construct songs, make catchy hooks, and give each member enough room to shine. Their easygoing chemistry and technical rapping ability proves themselves a legitimate group to watch.
If you have time for only one song from this album, make it "Mortal Kombat".
Over an earworm hook performed by Saba, members trade references that range from Nsync to Sammy Sosa over a simple yet effective beat that sets the stage for each member to have their moment.
Arkansas artist Kari Faux absolutely steals the show however, flowing effortlessly to close out the track.
