10 Best Instrumental Rock Music Albums Of All Time
7. Blow By Blow - Jeff Beck
A guitarist's guitarist, Jeff Beck (born in England, 1944) rose to prominence as part of the ground-breaking Yardbirds before forming his own group. From '75 onwards, Beck switched to a predominantly instrumental style, winning critical acclaim for his innovative explorations, including no less than six Grammy Awards for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, a prestigious Ivor Novello, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
1975's Blow By Blow, which features a mix of covers and Beck originals, remains a standout in the guitarist's long career. Backed by Max Middleton on keys (whose credits including working with Kate Bush, Chris Rea and John Martyn), Phil Chen on bass (Ray Manzarek, Rod Stewart), and Richard Bailey on drums (Steve Winwood, The Who), plus an uncredited guest appearance by Stevie Wonder, Beck glides through this music with enviable ease.
Ranging from jazz-funk and blues-rock to the gorgeously symphonic Diamond Dust, there's something for everyone here. Through almost every moment, Beck's guitar shimmers like a vein of silver.
