Liz Phair's 1993 release goes beyond the work of every other band associated with the lo-fi movement of the time to be one of the greatest albums of the 1990s, and an album that continues to show its influence in artists such as Courtney Barnett and Waxahatchee. It is a colossal, inspired work that would overshadow much of Phair's later career.

A high-concept response to the Rolling Stone's Exile on Main Street, songs like "6'1," "F**k and Run," and "Never Said" are often humorous looks at the facets of different relationships. It drove a stake through the hyper-masculine indie culture of its day and is still an incredibly potent album in this respect.

Its intelligence and sarcasm deserve to be mentioned among the greats of 90s rock and for that reason it is at the top of the list. It rewards with every listen and serves as a perfect introduction to one of the decades best musicians.
