10 Best Lorde Songs
2. Green Light
This is the
first track we come across on Lorde's second album. And if there's one
thing we can be sure of, it's that it sets us up for what will be an
incredible journey through the world of Melodrama. The artist talks about
the end of her first relationship. Yet, she remembers some moments and conversations
with her former partner simultaneously.
The song opens with a verse that may seem confusing if we listen to it for the first time, but as we listen to the song, everything makes sense. So many of the things she says are metaphors or memories of things they lived with her unfaithful ex. At chorus time, Lorde says only to wait for a green light that will allow him to move on with her life and leave the past behind. This isn't the first time we will see heartbreak on the album, but it's one worth remembering.
The production of this track is perfect. It's impossible not to feel an immense desire to dance when listening to the drum, the energy and the vibe in general. Despite being a song about a breakup, Green Light makes us want to get up, dance and wait for that green light to let us go. Lorde's energetic vocals also bring a feeling to the song that's personal, raw, and delicate at times. Without a doubt, the combination of all this makes a great opening track for a phenomenal album.
