10 Best Metal Albums Of The 1990s - Ranked
2. Slipknot – Slipknot
Slipknot’s self-titled debut album is genre defining nu metal, taking the sound of their original demo Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat, and pushing it to the level it always should have been. This was helped in no small part by a personnel change, with the addition of frontman Corey Taylor being the most effective.
The release would go on to be Slipknot’s most commercially successful album, and is held in high regard with fans and critics alike, who applaud the album for giving nu metal the fury it needed to be taken seriously by metal elitists.
From the opening of (Sic), it’s easy to tell that is no normal nu metal album, it was heart-poundingly quick, and as edgy and aggressive as any death metal album released in the decade. As far as highlights go, Sic, Wait And Bleed, and Purity are the stand-outs, but there isn’t a bad song on the entire album.
The same can be said for the vocal and instrumental performances, as all are great, but special praise must go to Corey Taylor and Joey Jordison, for their vocals and drumming respectively.
