10 Best Metal Bands Of The Last 10 Years

4. Deafheaven

The final entry in this list’s consecutive trio of black metal madness comes in the form of Deafheaven, who have brought blackgaze to new, unprecedented heights in the 2010s.

Ever since 2010, this American five-piece have been fusing extreme riffing and wailing with the dulcet and subtle ambience of post-rock and shoegaze. What results is a body of work that boasts lengthy, epic songs, all of which ebb and flow brilliantly. Deafheaven’s powerful muscularity has ensured them a dedicated following among the hordes of metalheads all over the world, but their gorgeous interludes and versatility have been able to snag the group unforeseen markets from a plethora of alternative/indie subcultures. The amount of people that don’t identify as members of the heavy metal niche but still absolutely adore Deafheaven is truly astronomical, and serves as proof of just how fantastic yet accessible these mavens are.

Deafheaven currently have three albums under their collective belt (with a fourth rumoured to be on the way soon) and while it is standard practice in these kinds of lists to recommend one singular stand-out, there really isn’t one with this band: every Deafheaven album is nothing short of a masterpiece in post-blackened mysticism.
