10 Best Metallica Songs

5. Battery - Master Of Puppets (1986)

The opening track on Master of Puppets is an unrelenting piece of thrash metal that remains one of the heaviest songs the band have ever produced.

‘Battery’ begins with a soft acoustic guitar piece that serves as a wonderful contrast to the remainder of the track. Indeed, the melody is so sweet that it’s a shame it doesn’t go on for longer.

Yet the song soon delves into chaos in the form of a ferocious tempo with plenty of distorted riffing and a sharp, almost desperate vocal delivery from Hetfield.

The instrumental bridge is also a highlight. It’s during this section that the song is at its most memorable thanks to a slightly slower tempo and a catchy guitar riff.

Though ‘Battery’ is not amongst the most recognisable songs from Metallica, it’s an essential listen for those who favour their thrash metal style.
