10 Best Non-Rock Songs By Rock Artists

8. Bring Back That Leroy Brown - Queen

For all the musical brilliance on display, you can't that Queen didn't have a certain level of campiness to their sound.

Even though songs like Keep Yourself Alive and Bohemian Rhapsody hit with the blunt force of a sledgehammer, the subtle mannerisms of Freddie Mercury and free-spirited tone of the members still made every song feel like one big party. While something like Killer Queen may have been the rock monarch's first true smash, their third outing offered another style to the repertoire: showtunes.

Composed by Mercury himself, Bring Back that Leroy Brown is not something you really have to take too seriously, with everything sounding like it's being pumped out in the middle of a jaunty tavern.

As opposed to the more epic stories Mercury tried to tell in the early days, this song may as well be the theme song for a cartoon show, with the titular Leroy being the lovable rapscallion at the centre of it all.

Complete with the perfect lower octave vocal on the end of one of the verses, this song shows Queen at their silliest while never losing their creative ingenuity. Fans may have gravitated towards the more powerful side of the group, but Queen were looking to entertain their audience in any genre they knew how.
