10 Best Number One Rock Albums Of The 1980s

5. Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi

With their second album, 7800° Fahrenheit, hairspray addicts Bon Jovi got to number 37 in the Billboard 200.

With their third album a year later, they got to number one with a record that has sold 12 million copies in the US alone.

Now that's a glow up.

In many ways, Slippery When Wet is the quintessential 80s hair metal album. It's full of big, bombastic stadium-fillers like Livin' On a Prayer and You Give Love a Bad Name, as well as slow, crawling anthems like the band's ode to lonerism, Wanted Dead or Alive. There's enough machoness that it would have appealed to warm-blooded males at the time, whilst also containing enough pantomime camp to thrill even the most ardent of rock sceptics.

Slippery When Wet spent one week topping the charts in October 1986, before returning to the top spot for seven more in early 1987.

Even this doesn't tell the full story of how impactful this glorious collection of hyper-produced rock music was at the time and still is to this very day; it captured a moment in time that will (for the benefit of the ozone layer) never be repeated again.
