10 Best One-Hit Wonders In Rock Music History

1. Stacy’s Mom - Fountains Of Wayne

Stacy's Mom embodies everything that's great about a one-hit wonder.

It's cheesy, it's a little bit dodgy, and it's by a band with a name so stupid its no wonder they never had another hit.

Fountains of Wayne (still can't get over that) had been grifting away since 1995 when they struck gold in 2003.

Who needs deep, heartfelt lyrics about human suffering or the state of the modern world? Let's write a song about how much we want to bang our friend's hot mom!

Yeah!

You can't even argue with this logic, because it worked. Stacy's Mom was by far and away the group's knockout hit, achieving their highest chart finish in both the US and UK.

They'd had a few minor scuffles with success before this, but nothing like the fallout from Stacy's Mom.

The song is impossible to ignore. Love it or hate, you have an opinion on it. That's probably why it's survived for as long as it has, sticking around in nightclubs and on throwback playlists well past its sell-by date.

Congratulations Fountains of Wayne, you did it.

Against all conventional sense, you did it.
