10 Best Posthumous Rock Music Releases

4. Apple - Mother Love Bone

The fact that Mother Love Bone were only around from 1988 to 1990 and still have a strong following to this day says a lot about their work.

The reason why they were around for such a short space of time is not a particularly pleasant one. Their singer, Andrew Wood, died in 1990 aged just 24 years old after an overdose of heroin. This was mere days before their first album was scheduled to be released.

As a result of this tragedy, Apple was placed on hold and wouldn't get released for another few months. When it did come out, people were treated to the bittersweet sound of what the future of rock could have sounded like.

Apple is now seen as one of the forerunners of grunge music and a precursor to the alternative metal scene that was set to explode in the '90s. Had Wood's life not ended so soon, there is no doubt that Mother Love Bone would have been right in the mix of both of those movements.

The band remains one of the biggest What Ifs in music history.
