10 Best Red Hot Chili Peppers Albums
7. Unlimited Love
Time will tell how this album ages. It is true that nostalgia as well as personal investment - when the record came out and what it meant to you at the time - play a significant role in any ranking of an album. And Unlimited Love, being the most recent offering, has had the least time to marinate. The high points on this record belong up there with anything the band have done, such as White Braids and Pillow Chair, She’s a Lover, and Let ‘em Cry.
However, there is an equal amount of uninspired, mid-tier fare on the record too, with Black Summer sounding like someone has asked an AI to generate a generic RHCP song. However, there is enough on this record in terms of catchy, singable choruses and memorable basslines, that is still a positive, with the welcome return of Frusciante and his sultry backup vocals.
These Are The Ways and The Heavy Wing supply choruses that are sure to stick in the head, and the album's sings off on a beautiful note with Tangelo. Unfortunately, for this writer, some of the album tracks just lacked a little.
