10 Best Replacement Singers Of All Time
5. Brian Johnson - AC/DC
In the early days of AC/DC, seeing Bon Scott work his magic onstage was half of the price of admission. Since most of his sinister attitude provided the backbone for these Aussies' sound, he was the fun loving frontman that you wanted to hang out with if you were looking to get into some trouble. Then again, that trouble sometimes leads you down a dark path that you can't return from.
After dying of alcohol poisoning in between the recordings of the follow up to Highway to Hell, no one thought that anyone would be able to match Scott's intensity. While it was excruciating to have to bury their friend, Angus Young was not looking to mope around for the rest of their career, instead bringing in Brian Johnson to make the follow up Back in Black.
Although Johnson seems like the ideal fit to fill Bon's shoes, it's strange to think that even he wasn't completely sure about his vocals in the first place, originally thinking that the band were going to fire him and look for someone else later down the line. Time has shined a little nicer on him though, with his trademark gargled with razors vocal performance being the soundtrack to classic rock radio for decades at this point. Even after having to be put on life support, Brian Johnson's arrival with the new version of AC/DC is one of the greatest phoenix from the ashes story that rock and roll has ever known.
