10 Best Revenge Songs
1. Eminem - "Kim" (2000)
Eminem is obviously no stranger to controversy, but "Kim" remains one of his darkest, most emotive songs. As such, it's also one of his most memorable, and will no doubt be shocking new listeners for years to come. "Kim" was undoubtedly a landmark moment for one of the 21st Century's most successful artists.
Recorded in one take, this is a profanity-fuelled hateful stream of consciousness from Eminem, drawing on feelings of violent instability, promising all kinds of horrific, violent acts to a spectre of his real-life wife whom he also imitates on the track. The sheer amount of promised (and eventually enacted) violence is truly disturbing, and the imitated voice of his wife and choking sounds towards the end of the song as he "kills" Kim screaming 'Bleed, bitch, bleed!' really make it a difficult listen.
Very rarely do revenge songs become quite this brutal and violently realised. The Marshall Mathers LP remains one of Eminem's best-selling albums of all time, and featuring songs like "Kim", you can see why. Whatever your feelings on the content of the song, there is no doubt that this murder-fantasy is one of, if not THE, most shocking revenge songs ever to be released.
