3. Petals for Armor - Hayley Williams

There's always a bit of uneasiness when the lead singer of a band decides to go solo. Compared to the slew of artists who have actually successfully struck out on their own, it's anybody's guess as to whether or not your career will go the way of Ozzy Osbourne or...say...Art Garfunkel. If you're Hayley Williams though, you make the whole thing look like a walk in the park.

Across every single song on Petals For Armor, you can tell that Hayley is going for a much different vibe than we've seen previously. Though Paramore had already been going in a bit of a different direction as of late, this delve into more artsy rock is that dramatic left turn that Williams had always kept under wraps. Instead of the straight ahead pop punk you would get with Paramore, these songs feel like they're ripped straight out of Radiohead's playbook or even the wild zaniness of an artist like Bjork.

Though Petals for Armor is very good for what it is, it also does a great job at distancing itself from the legacy that Hayley has already built. Even with fans gravitating towards Paramore, this is a project that manages to work outside of the confines of Williams' previous band. I'm not saying that Paramore should break up by any means, but if things were to go south, Williams certainly has the chops to thrive on her own.
