10 Best Rock Albums Of The 1970s

9. Rumors - Fleetwood Mac

For the better part of a decade, Fleetwood Mac was a traditional blues rock outfit who ruled the British club circuit with guitarists like Peter Green and Bob Welch. After falling out with both guitarists, the band's direction started to turn in a different direction once they adopted songwriters Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Though the first record with this new lineup had seen great success, the band was on shaky ground going into the next record, with two different romantic separations playing out within the band.

Being the musical professionals they were, the band poured all their spite and resentment into their songs, which turned their soap operas into the greatest pop rock ever to grace the airwaves. Make no mistake, while songs like "Go Your Own Way" and "Don't Stop" are delectable ear candy, a closer look behind the lyrics shows the dramatic undertones just beneath the surface.

The songs on this record are a time capsule of what the band was going through, with a sound that hasn't shown any rust since its release over 40 years ago. It may have been a torturous production, but thank the musical gods that the chain did indeed keep this band together.
