10 Best Rock Albums Of The 2000s

6. Black Holes And Revelations - Muse

With Muse fast becoming the greatest power trio in modern rock, the band were slowly bringing their next album to life. Across their previous albums, the band had been making strides with each track drastically shifting from space rock to punk to metal and everything in between.

Once Black Holes and Revelations was released, the band's disparate genre-hopping had been brought to its sonic peak with songs that kicked the door down. The group's experimentation led them to spacey dance rock on "Supermassive Black Hole," poiganant balladry on the crowd favorite "Starlight," and even more metallic grandeur on the freakout "Assassin." However, nothing comes close to the album closer "Knights of Cydonia," whose relentless gallop and monstrous riffs wash over your eardrums for the song's 6 minute duration.

Being a trio, each member holds up their end with the chunky bass lines of Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard's maniacal drum fills working in lock step with one another. Above it all, Matthew Bellamy's vocal delivery and guitar pyrotechnics gave the 2000's yet another guitar hero to look up to. Muse may have been a great band before this album, but Black Holes took their space rock stylings into stadiums around the world.
