10 Best Rock Albums That Everyone Forgets About
1. The Masterplan - Oasis
In the grand scheme of things, no one really needs to care about B-side albums. Most of the time, these are made out of contractual obligations and are made up of cutting room floor material that was never supposed to be heard by the public. However, the Masterplan by Oasis may be one of the most essential records in their catalog despite having no new material on it.
Aside from a few live cuts, most of this record is just songs that were standalone singles and B-sides thrown onto other single material. Given that most of this was meant to be filler, Noel Gallagher's penchant for writing great songs was still on another level here. Across its runtime, these tunes run the gamut of everything awesome about Oasis, from the duet vocals on Acquiesce to the acoustic sounds of Talk Tonight to the amazing punk rock attitude of Headshrinker.
Then again, you haven't lived until you've heard the title track that closes out the album, which would have become one of the most successful songs they've ever made had it not been relegated to a B-side. Considering that this would be one of the last albums we'd get from the core lineup before going on a hiatus, this is probably one of the best notes that you could have possibly gone out on.
