10 Best Rock Bands Of The 2000s
5. Arctic Monkeys
After the White Stripes promptly set the garage rock world on fire, everyone and their mother seemed to start a band of their own to try to match them. While we had the more glittery side of rock and roll happening from the Strokes, there were also acts like Interpol trying to put a more indie spin on the traditional back to basics approach. That was America though...something way more interesting was happening overseas.
Off the strength of their first few demos, Arctic Monkeys quickly turned into one of the biggest overnight sensations in rock music, with their debut album Whatever People Say I Am... leading to these lads playing Glastonbury just a few months after its release. These were no flash in the pan though, with Alex Turner providing some of the most sleazy lyrics of the modern age, perfectly encapsulating the feeling of English nightlife all with a subtle hint of mysteriousness to leave you aching to hear more.
As time went on though, things got even more adventurous, with the Monkeys venturing to Joshua Tree and making more stoner rock infused songs on albums like Humbug before striking gold yet again in 2013 with the album AM. The garage rock idea may have sounded like a broken record at this point, but this is what happens when every single aspect of the music is dialed up to the nth degree.
