10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 1990s

9. Classic Girl - Ritual De Lo Habitual (Jane’s Addiction)

Despite being very famous indeed, the band Jane's Addiction have only released four studio albums, with a fifth supposedly on the way in 2024.

They only put out one single record in the '90s, and they did so right at the start of the decade in 1990. Thankfully, that album closed with a real treat.

Ritual de lo Habitual (or "Ritual of the Habitual" in Spanish) is just nine songs long, but it had four songs released as singles. The final one was Classic Girl, which was written by lead singer Perry Farrell's in tribute to his former girlfriend. Xiola Blue was just 19 when she died of a heroin overdose, so Farrell decided to immortalise her in song.

Initially starting slowly, the tune builds and builds to a much faster ending, as Farrell's ghostly vocals glide over the top of the music. The lyrics are very praising of the girl in question - a rare piece of sincerity from a genre not known for its honest emotion.

Classic Girl is an endearingly open letter of appreciation, which is made only made more impactful once you learn the context behind it.
