10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 1990s

6. Freedom - Rage Against The Machine (Rage Against The Machine)

Rage Against the Machine ended their debut album with a song about a Native American activist they believed was falsely imprisoned. The story of Leonard Peltier and what went down at the Pine Ridge Reservation is fascinating, and the song it inspired made for a phenomenal album-closer.

Freedom was deployed as the final track of Rage's self-titled 1992 debut. The record was an instant success, thanks to the band's fusion of hip-hop, funk, and metal, and their overtly political messages.

A worthy companion to Killing in the Name, Bullet in the Head, and Take the Power Back, Freedom is all over the place in the best way possible.

It changes tempo multiple times, as Zach de la Rocha puts in one of his best ever vocal performances. He's the star of the show here, carrying this frantic song on his back whilst ripping his vocal chords to shreds.

Freedom feels like the final song at a live show; chaotic, energetic, and a definitive end to a setlist. It's a fantastic closer on a fantastic album and a must listen for anyone who likes their metal funky and a little bit unhinged.
