10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 2010s

3. 7empest - Tool (Fear Inoculum)

After 13 years of waiting, getting angry at waiting, and then making jokes about waiting, Tool fans finally got their reward when Fear Inoculum arrived in 2019.

The band's fifth album had a lot of hype to live up to, but it surpassed all expectations. It topped charts, sold like hotcakes, and landed on many publication's decade-end "Best Of" lists.

The funny thing is that the album only has seven songs on it. All of them bar one are over ten minutes long, but still. The longest is the 15 minutes 44 second-long climax 7empest, which is pronounced "Tempest" for those wondering.

That word means "a violent windy storm", which is precisely what this song is. The lyrics are aggressive and direct, harking back to the band's early days, whilst the music is more akin to their more popular later work.

Like Tool's best songs, it pivots around a singular musical theme without ever straying too far from its source material. It swells and swells to a definitive climax, ending Fear Inoculum on the highest of highs.

Now let's hope nobody has to wait another decade plus for this lot to make something else.
