10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 2010s

2. Future Days - Pearl Jam (Lightning Bolt)

Pearl Jam have long been at the stage where they've made enough money to release any old rubbish and get away with it. Equally, this also means that they can make the music they want to make and not worry about it selling.

This attitude gave birth to 2013's Lightning Bolt, an album which felt the most comfortable Pearl Jam had been in years. It's one of their most complete records, rarely delivering anything other than excellence. The emotional final track, Future Days, is no exception to that.

Eddie Vedder's journey from grunge icon to sentimental old man has been lovely to watch. Future Days is Grandpa Vedder at his mushy best, singing softly about an eternal bond.

In reality, the song is actually about his friend Dennis Flemion, who died in 2012.

An unabashed love song, Future Days feels so true that it's impossible to hate. It makes you believe its played out message of love conquers all and ensures that you end your listen through of Lightning Bolt with a tear in your eye.

And if you don't, well, then you're just heartless.
